Budapest - the capital
|The Hungarian capital Budapest referred to as the "Paris of the East", is one of the most beautiful cities in world. The city lies in the northern part of central Hungary and is the center of the country in every respect.
The 2.1 million metropolis consists of Pest, Buda and buda. All were independent cities until the end of the 19th century in 1872, when they were integrated into Budapest. The Danube slices the city into two parts and separates hilly Buda from flat Pest.
The shopping area is located in the pedestrian area of Pest. Here it is important to mention the Vci utca, where sidewalk cafs and restaurants invite those passing by to linger and provide a good insight into everyday life.
The metro of Budapest is also of noteworthiness. The underground net consists of three lines and is the fastest way of traveling within the city.
On the other side of the Danube, you should not miss the Gellrt hill with the Citadel, the Gellrt-Monument and the Fisherbastion. From the Citadel you can enjoy a beautiful view of Budapest.
